- If the question asks about belonging, you can write about "not belonging" also
- Think about the context BUT DO NOT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS (LOL the youi ad with the three fat guys) and do not answer outside the scope

- Common themes: Identity, Relationships, Acceptance and Understanding
- Do not spend to much time on 1 markers, only 1-2 sentences maximum.
- 1 markers - 1-2 sentences - Answer usually obvious, and u can get the mark with just one word. MAD -_-

- 3 markers - o.5 - 1 page - 3 aspects, 3 techniques
- 4 markers - 1-1.5 pages
- 5/6 markers - 2 exam pages - must include Introduction (with thesis of course), Body Paragraphs, and a Conclusion

Speech notes

From hobo Keegan AGAIN!!! Steven should do this instead of me, but I actually wrote the notes.

-Poor delivery but good speech = 13 or 14 out of 20
-Know what you are saying.
-Practice what you are going to say.
-HELP EACH OTHER
-Make sure techniques convey content that gives meaning
-Finish four days before (should of posted this eariler ><)
-TYPE IT!!!!
-Think about orginality and appeal. PURPOSE!?!?!?!
-NOT AN ESSAY ITS A SPEECH
-KNOW your audience, REMEMBER your audience, TALK TO your audience
-INTRODUCTION AND CONCLUSION ARE VERY IMPORTANT
-Make sure your conclusion links to your introduction
-You can use a quote to start and end a speech BUT make sure they are in BOTH
-Make sure the quote is relevant
-YOUR audience are IDIOTS
-Every time you speech, it is NOT the same but it will still have the same STRUCTURE
-Your speech does not have to be exactly like your transcript
-Do not change your speech too much compare to your transcript, PARAGRAPH=NO, Senctence=YES
-USE BLOODY INCLUSIVE NOUNS!!!!!
-Palm care = HAND CARDS
-Cardboard behind paper is a good idea (don't be like me and use waste paper :P)
-NUMBERED
-Try to use only dot points (too advance and late for that)
-Highlight keywords to be EMPHASISED
-When you present your speech, HIGHLIGHTED words may be the only thing you remember
-ADD a colour card or something to remind you to do something (LOOK UP MORE, SPEECH SLOWER, SAY NOT READ etc.)
-Enthusiasm is a MUST (be happy when you speak =p)
-FEEL passionate about what you are saying (CONFIDENCE)
-Don't write something you think is funny or exciting but it isn't (JOKES) unless you are funny
-REMEMBER PACE, TONE, VOLUME <---- Vary them
-SERIOUS=SLOW EXCITED=FAST
-Control your audience, Play your audience, use [pause]s
-PAUSES let your audience be absorbed into it
-Your audience are your friend, they want you to do well (WORKED IN YEAR 11 when we actually had friends in the midst of everything >< teachers as friends................ hmm)
-Cards in ONE hand, two hands look like a wall or barrier
-BE NATURAL
-NO PROPS
-START with only LADIES AND GENTLEMEN
-NEVER end with THANK YOU
-FINSIH without FADING into your seat, STAND FIRM for a few seconds before leaving
-STAY FOCUS
-LOOK AT EVERYONE (ie both teachers)
-Your EYE CONTACT needs to be natural (used to be looking around the room but since we only have two teachers as an audience)
-EYEBALL those who aren't listening (would be funny against SPROULE OR KEENGAN :P)
-EYEBALL SPROULE OR KEENGAN IF YOU HAVE THEM
-The tip above is a joke :P
-LEGS are shoulder width apart
-You CAN move a bit... LIKE YOUR KNEES

MY TIPS ;)
-Never move your feet... shuffling of feet shows you are scared...
-You must look at the audience when you pause
-Look at audience when you finish
-Look at audience when you talking, When you finish your sentence, then you look down, BETTER EFFECT, just do it most of the time
-FACIAL EXPRESSION <----- BUT be NATURAL
-LEAVE AN EMOTIONAL IMPACT
-INCLUSIVE language EVERY paragraph at LEAST

HEY I GOT 20/20 for my speech last year and these helped

HOPE ITS NOT TOO LATE, most of these WILL help your delivery instead :P you should be finished by NOW :P

PEACE AND GOD BLESS
Chris

Creative Writing

(These notes are from keegan in those afternoon thingy... thought i put my notes up)

-WORTH A LOT
-Prepare a scenario and NOT A STORY

-Scenarios are:
-Adaptations (many scenes and context(maybe? depends on your story)) <---- MAIN POINT!!!!
-told from any view point (could be my uncle taking about me etc.)
-told by anyone (like above)
-start at any point (could be jumping off the cliff, halfway falling etc.)
-Any text types (teachers are fine with just story if its creative, others are more interesting)
-Never write anything like discriminatory or prejudiceable (is that even a word ><) don't write personal things chances are you might need counselling... (eg. Drugs or Rape or hatred to white people etc.)
-Have handy similiar words (belonging is boring!!! Link, connection, join, isolate, disintergrate are much more interesting.
-Don't write about stuff you haven't experienced... LIKE TERRORISM LOL
-You have to do something unique (like falling off a cliff JOKES.... i dont know you think)
-Never get your idea from SECTION 1 or take stuff from SECTION 1 basically STAY AWAY from SECTION 1
-Key phrases or catch phrases (like: 'hey we are busy right now, i'll give it to you tomorrow ;])
-Reflecting comment at the end (And Chris enjoyed the company of many fat moles)
-Be adaptable + Reflexable (Drugs on a isolated island isn't reflexable or adaptable)
-Leave readers with emotional experience

LAST BLURP (kekekeke) -Emo <--- I mean be emotional
-Be interesting (not you the story)
-Be believeable (not you the story)
-Use your experience
-No angst (not you the story)
-Level of language appropriate (articulate and intelligent)
-SHOW DON'T TELL
-Time limit
- keep it like a day seriously... teachers don't have time for you lifestory
-Focus- avoid useless information (i don't care if your firmware for you psp is 3.7 or 3.71 what matters is you are playing your psp by yourself)
-Tell marker what you are doing (?) <--- i don't get this one :P
-ALWAYS WRITE IN THRID PERSON

[edit] From Sproule: your work needs structure, a story that rambles will get you a D or E seriously... remember orientation->complication->series of events->resolution

Orientation: time, place, setting, characters, who, where, when
(e.g The old house slump into the earth. Covered by a heavy mass of grass. The house screams as it sways with the chilly wind. The smell of plants from the front lawn spreads into the night sky. The smell of decaying fruit, the smell of rotten flowers that is unbearable to anyone. However, a very small yet bright light prods through the covering of trees. Suddenly, the whole area is filled with delicious pork. The kind that melts in your mouth as you bite into it. Then the screaming of the house is drowned out by the laughing of a family. One mother, one father, a son and a grandpa)<--- See you know its night time, its a house, you have a family, you have setting that appeals to your sense. Maybe I needed to add the who bit more but you get the idea... (WE DID THIS IN CLASS :P, this is practice for me)

Complication: Not fitting in, Isolation, Acceptance, Exclusion
(e.g. Bob turned on the television. The buzzing sound from the television overwelmed Bob's ears reminding of the old days. 'Patrick, Patrick...' the television whipers. Bob could not bear it. The shavers reminded him of Patrick. The hairdryer and its soft and warm heat entered Bob's skin, reminding him of the hardship he had with Patrick. The fan, crying with Bob as he remembers the days spent with Patrick. 'Oh, if only you were here,' Bob cried loudly as he turned off the television that he spent so much time with Patrick. Then the room fell silent as the television turned off. Everything fell quiet. Suddenly the metal door slidded open.)

Series of event: Write about ONE event. It may have 2-3 sections/paragraphs within them (best if its sections because sections could = 1-2 paragraphs :])
(e.g. grandfather not belonging with son-> dinner table is quiet-> son is working on HSC-> language barrier-> days before grandfather returns to HK, they watch a soccer match together)

Resolution: reflection, growth, learning, change
(e.g. Jan's dad and son echoed the fans chant, absorbed in their soccer game. Crying with the fans, laughing with the fans. Together. These days will never be remembered by Jan. Jan can never re-live the days when her son looked so happy with her dad. She can never re-live the time when the language barrier was crushed by a simple and insignificant soccer game. She can never live that moment again.)

ONE MORE-Topics- celebrations, family, sport, relationships, holidays, commenmeration, job... many more)

Wow i wrote a lot :P (all story are my own story -_- no stealing)

P.s my side note, practice at least once every two days and everyday until exams :)

Chris

eng (0216) - Belong: relationships

talking about the romantic relationships in as you like it.

there's:

orlando and rosalind. love at first sight, she taunts him after she finds out his feelings, in the end they end up together.

oliver and celia. also love at first sight.

touchstone and audrey. mainly for fun, aka sex. he wants to get married simply to get the benefits, if you know whati mean. she is seen as a simpleton and a slut.

silvius and phoebe. "sweet phoebe, pity me" the unrequited kind of love. unrequited at first. but after the ganymede kaffufle, things fix up.

orlando and ganymede. there's slight gay innuendo here, and orlando finds himself rather attracted to ganymede coz he has rosalind's qualities.

phoebe and ganymede. probaly more understandable, he seems hard to get too. however once she realizes that its acutlaly rosalind, she faints.

eng (1124) - CST: pearson 1

i missed the first 2 pages of pearson's speech in my sickness, but i caught the drift quickly.

we've studied noel pearson before, in yr9. i haev to dig up those notes.. about the other speech he made that we analyzed, and his context etc.

in his speech he makes a lot of quotes made by other politicians.

also, he makes a lot of references to his own lecture, which im yet to fully understand.. i must go back and read the other 2 pages.

eng (1113) - CST: atwood 1

we've been doing atwood for the past few days, but not mcuh to say that's not already on the sheets.

she's talking about how many feminists are trying to censor and really narrow the roles of females in literature, especially back in the 1970s. but atwood (speaking in the 1990s) says how that's boring and just like having breakfast, not very exciting.

she argues (and uses a lot of examples from texts) that people need to be bad in order for awesome stories to come about. she talks about being bad being human, and that's what makes life interesting, and that's why men are usually the interesting characters coz they're usually the villains.

today, we reached the point where she lists a bunch of female villains, talking about medea (jason's [as in argonauts] wife) medusa, delilah (as in sampson) goneril and regan lady macbeth and one.. sula.

she also made reference to fairy tales such as snow white, that glorify housekeeping.. but there's also the evil queen whom atwood seems highly interested in, and she talks of cinderella.. we talked about the original story todya in class.. funny coz on a black friday back in feb we talked about the same thing too hahaha.

eng (1105) - CST: suu kyi 2

there's never much i can write about in english these days, not that's not already on the sheets in the booklet.

in the next few pages, suu kyi talks about how women have all these positive qualities and crap and that the home is their realm.

she talks about if women can handle doing all this stuff int he home, then they can bring it to the world and make the world awesome.

she talks abot even men acknowledge tat women should be more involved with government crap.

also, a little on history, burmese girls often flee the country to thailand and become prostitutes.. and somehow tahts a life thats better than staying in burma. shall dig into this further soon

eng (1104) - CST: suu kyi 1

we started with suu kyi's speech today, more about justice etc.

but we went through contextual things first.. about suu kyi, and her house arrest, and inability to see her children and husband and all that.

i actually dont have much to say on this.. what notes can you make that arent arleady scribbled into the book? x.x

just go check it.. waste to double up notes.

eng (1027) - CST: sadat 5

can't really say much.. it was a lot of reading.

we talked about altruism.. which is basically doing things because its the right thing to do, not coz you want to do it.

we talked about sadat being self-righteous, he was confident that what he was saying was right.

we also talked about how he didn't use doublespeak, he claimed so anyway. that whatever he said was honest words.. that he "didnt speak more than 1 language" to quote.

eng (1023) - CST: sadat 4

didn't make much progress today.. coz had to talk about other stuff like classes and rank slips and whatnot.

but we did talk about some contextual stuff.. like jerusalem. home of the ark of the covenant and deathplace of jesus, important to the three battling religions.

we reviewed stuff again, like techniques. repetition, metaphor, simile, anaphora, lexical chains, imagery and quotes, etc.

we discussed what kind of person sadat is, and what we can draw from just 5 pages of his speech. he's a passionate, logical speaker who demonstrates his knowledge and proves he knows what he's talking about with analogies and whatnot. he's religious, in terms of his own, and neighbouring religions, but he is also a proud man. he is dedicated and he is courageous, especially to step into enemy territory and make such claims.

although he offered peace and all these guarantees with israel, he still claimed it all to be arab land, including jerusalem.

apparently both the arabs and the israeli people filmed it, and they edited the speech and camera shots in different ways. the arab takes focused on people not paying attention, and the israeli film showed astonished looks on peoples faces.

also, apparently my level of language has crapped up as my recent essays have shown me, and it has been commented on -.- have to work on that.. i did crap in eng and ext1 eng this yearly.. not surprised im not in top class -.-

eng (1022) - CST: sadat 3

lexical chains (string of words) and anaphora were what we discussed that sadat used today.

he made reference to guys in the old testament, who were known by people of all three religions. he spoke of wise king solomon and king david.

he also made a lot of guarantees with israel, ultimately he was saying that it was arab land.

a bit of a history lesson though, israel had historic claims on the land, and anyone could really coz back in the ancient days, theb oarders were always shifting.
