(These notes are from keegan in those afternoon thingy... thought i put my notes up)
-WORTH A LOT
-Prepare a scenario and NOT A STORY
-Scenarios are:
-Adaptations (many scenes and context(maybe? depends on your story)) <---- MAIN POINT!!!!
-told from any view point (could be my uncle taking about me etc.)
-told by anyone (like above)
-start at any point (could be jumping off the cliff, halfway falling etc.)
-Any text types (teachers are fine with just story if its creative, others are more interesting)
-Never write anything like discriminatory or prejudiceable (is that even a word ><) don't write personal things chances are you might need counselling... (eg. Drugs or Rape or hatred to white people etc.)
-Have handy similiar words (belonging is boring!!! Link, connection, join, isolate, disintergrate are much more interesting.
-Don't write about stuff you haven't experienced... LIKE TERRORISM LOL
-You have to do something unique (like falling off a cliff JOKES.... i dont know you think)
-Never get your idea from SECTION 1 or take stuff from SECTION 1 basically STAY AWAY from SECTION 1
-Key phrases or catch phrases (like: 'hey we are busy right now, i'll give it to you tomorrow ;])
-Reflecting comment at the end (And Chris enjoyed the company of many fat moles)
-Be adaptable + Reflexable (Drugs on a isolated island isn't reflexable or adaptable)
-Leave readers with emotional experience
LAST BLURP (kekekeke) -Emo <--- I mean be emotional
-Be interesting (not you the story)
-Be believeable (not you the story)
-Use your experience
-No angst (not you the story)
-Level of language appropriate (articulate and intelligent)
-SHOW DON'T TELL
-Time limit
- keep it like a day seriously... teachers don't have time for you lifestory
-Focus- avoid useless information (i don't care if your firmware for you psp is 3.7 or 3.71 what matters is you are playing your psp by yourself)
-Tell marker what you are doing (?) <--- i don't get this one :P
-ALWAYS WRITE IN THRID PERSON
[edit] From Sproule: your work needs structure, a story that rambles will get you a D or E seriously... remember orientation->complication->series of events->resolution
Orientation: time, place, setting, characters, who, where, when
(e.g The old house slump into the earth. Covered by a heavy mass of grass. The house screams as it sways with the chilly wind. The smell of plants from the front lawn spreads into the night sky. The smell of decaying fruit, the smell of rotten flowers that is unbearable to anyone. However, a very small yet bright light prods through the covering of trees. Suddenly, the whole area is filled with delicious pork. The kind that melts in your mouth as you bite into it. Then the screaming of the house is drowned out by the laughing of a family. One mother, one father, a son and a grandpa)<--- See you know its night time, its a house, you have a family, you have setting that appeals to your sense. Maybe I needed to add the who bit more but you get the idea... (WE DID THIS IN CLASS :P, this is practice for me)
Complication: Not fitting in, Isolation, Acceptance, Exclusion
(e.g. Bob turned on the television. The buzzing sound from the television overwelmed Bob's ears reminding of the old days. 'Patrick, Patrick...' the television whipers. Bob could not bear it. The shavers reminded him of Patrick. The hairdryer and its soft and warm heat entered Bob's skin, reminding him of the hardship he had with Patrick. The fan, crying with Bob as he remembers the days spent with Patrick. 'Oh, if only you were here,' Bob cried loudly as he turned off the television that he spent so much time with Patrick. Then the room fell silent as the television turned off. Everything fell quiet. Suddenly the metal door slidded open.)
Series of event: Write about ONE event. It may have 2-3 sections/paragraphs within them (best if its sections because sections could = 1-2 paragraphs :])
(e.g. grandfather not belonging with son-> dinner table is quiet-> son is working on HSC-> language barrier-> days before grandfather returns to HK, they watch a soccer match together)
Resolution: reflection, growth, learning, change
(e.g. Jan's dad and son echoed the fans chant, absorbed in their soccer game. Crying with the fans, laughing with the fans. Together. These days will never be remembered by Jan. Jan can never re-live the days when her son looked so happy with her dad. She can never re-live the time when the language barrier was crushed by a simple and insignificant soccer game. She can never live that moment again.)
ONE MORE-Topics- celebrations, family, sport, relationships, holidays, commenmeration, job... many more)
Wow i wrote a lot :P (all story are my own story -_- no stealing)
P.s my side note, practice at least once every two days and everyday until exams :)
Chris
(God Bless)
